When will the 2023 CFA exam results be announced?

Summary of CPA Exam Experience in Six Subjects

According to the usual practice of the Chinese Institute of Certified Public Accountants (CICPA), the guess for the release date of the exam results is November 21 (Tuesday).

Let’s first take a look at the historical release dates of the CICPA exam scores:

The years before 2020 are not very relevant because back then, the CPA exam was held in October. It’s only in the past three years that the exam was moved forward to August.

For the exams held in August, the scores are usually announced in the first week of November, either on Monday or Tuesday. So, it is guessed that this year’s scores will also be announced on November 21 (Tuesday).

Speaking of which, in the past, I only found out that I could check my scores through the score reports published by other friends in my social circle. But when I eagerly tried to check my own scores, the network was congested and I couldn’t log in due to the overwhelming number of people trying to access it.

Currently, there are two ways to check the scores: one is through the official website of CICPA, and the other is through their WeChat official account. I recommend that you familiarize yourself with the operation process in advance.

My CPA exam preparation experience was a bit bumpy. In the first year, I registered for two subjects, but unfortunately failed both. In the second year, I passed two out of two subjects, and in the third year, I passed all four subjects. After that, I worked at a domestic accounting firm as an auditor for over two years, and then I jumped to a Big Four accounting firm.

Taking this opportunity, I would like to review my experience in preparing for the six subjects of the CPA exam. I hope my fellow candidates who are currently preparing for the exam can learn from my successes and failures and avoid unnecessary detours on their exam preparation journey.

1. Accounting

This is definitely a subject to be reported in the first year. As can be seen from the name of Certified Public Accountant (CPA), accounting is fundamental.

The main objective of preparing for the accounting exam is to understand accounting entries. The exam also tests accounting entries. For example, a case background is given and then you are asked to calculate how much investment income should be recognized in the current period and its impact on net profit, etc. In essence, it tests accounting entries. If you can’t write accounting entries, you won’t be able to come up with the answers.

In the CPA accounting textbook, the writing order for each chapter is to first write an introduction, explaining the accounting content of this subject, and then write the accounting rules. For example, how to measure initial costs, how to calculate depreciation and amortization, etc. Finally, examples are used to explain how to make accounting entries.

My method of review is to follow the online course teacher and study in the order of introduction, accounting rules, and examples. Then, I use the accounting entries in the examples to review the accounting rules. This means learning in a methodical way, with examples being the focus and accounting rules as the support.

Another point to note is that after completing a chapter, it is important to immediately do the corresponding exercises. The knowledge points of accounting are complex, and often you may find yourself unable to recall anything after finishing studying once. Therefore, it is necessary to consolidate the learned knowledge through exercises in a timely manner.

2. Financial Cost Management

Financial Cost Management is a course with many formulas and concepts, and it is not easy to master. It also has the lowest pass rate among the six courses.

It is divided into three parts: Financial Management, Cost Management, and Management Accounting. Among them, Financial Management is the farthest away from us and the most complex and obscure in terms of knowledge. It includes topics such as valuation of options and bonds, evaluation and selection of investment projects, and enterprise valuation.

But unfortunately, the textbook puts Financial Management at the beginning of the chapters. Therefore, I suggest that we should study Financial Management at the end and focus on Cost Management and Management Accounting at the beginning.

Cost Management and Management Accounting are relatively easy to grasp, which can prevent us from feeling overwhelmed too early and giving up.

Furthermore, these three parts are independent of each other and do not have a progressive relationship. Not understanding one part does not affect the study of another part.

Another important tip is to memorize formulas and practice more exercises. The exam for Financial Cost Management has a large number of questions, and many candidates cannot complete them in the exam room. So it is necessary to practice more exercises in order to gain a better sense of the questions and be able to write the formulas proficiently.

If you encounter a formula that you temporarily can’t recall during the exam, skip it and move on to the next question. It is highly possible that the later questions or cases will inspire you and help you remember the formula. This can also avoid being stuck and running out of time for the familiar questions at the end.

For memory techniques related to financial management formulas, you can download the free CPA Passing Package below, which includes a summary of financial management formulas and corresponding score-improving techniques. It is available for self-collection.

III. Audit

When studying for the audit course, it is important to always follow one general principle, which is to be risk-oriented. All audit procedures revolve around identifying, addressing, and drawing conclusions from risks.

In addition, understanding and recitation are equally important. Although audit materials are predominantly textual and require minimal calculations, I believe that comprehension should take priority. Only by knowing the facts and the reasons behind them can we tackle case analysis questions effectively.

For instance, in relation to the relationship between the level of materiality and the level of significance, when the project risk is deemed high, we should lower the level of materiality. This way, we will be more cautious when evaluating significance and perform more audit procedures to address possible high risks.

For those knowledge points in auditing that involve considering factors, situations, etc., it is necessary to memorize them appropriately. During the memorization process, there is no need to memorize word for word as it can be mentally exhausting. Instead, extract key words and use mnemonic techniques for optimal memory retention.

Chapter 4: Tax Law

Tax law is actually relatively simple, much easier than the three major challenges of financial auditing. Understanding it is not difficult either. The main challenge lies in the fragmented nature of the knowledge, with various tax incentives and exemption policies.

My suggestion is to focus on the big picture and pay less attention to the details. Grasp the calculations and typical scenarios involving major types of taxes, such as mixed sales and dual operation in value-added tax, consumption tax, corporate income tax, personal income tax, land increment tax, and so on.

As for the minor types of taxes, it is sufficient to have a general understanding of the key points. There is no need to deliberately memorize tax incentives or exemption policies, as this does not align with the principle of cost-effectiveness.

Section Five: Company Strategy and Risk Management

Based on the feedback from many online friends, it has become more difficult in the past two years. There are fewer questions that directly test concepts or the original text, and the perspective of the questions has become more flexible, focusing more on testing the analytical abilities of the candidates.

Although the questions are more flexible, the fundamentals remain unchanged - strategic analysis, strategic choice, and strategic implementation.

When preparing for the exam, it is strongly recommended to use mind maps to remember the logical connections. For example, in strategic choice, there are overall strategies, divided into development strategy, stability strategy, and contraction strategy. And the development strategy is further divided into integration strategy, intensive strategy, and diversification strategy. Among them, integration strategy can be further divided into horizontal integration and vertical integration, and vertical integration can be further divided into forward integration and backward integration.

Like the branches of a tree, the tree diagram keeps expanding outwards. Using conventional memory methods can easily lead to confusion, while using mind maps can help maintain a clear train of thought.

Speaking of mind maps, the following resource package contains mind maps for all six CPA subjects, neatly organized by chapter. It has been carefully compiled and is now being freely shared with all the knowledgeable friends. Feel free to help yourself to it.

In addition, it is important to practice case analysis questions regularly and master the answering skills. Start by extracting the background, analyzing the key points, and integrating the enumerative knowledge points with the background.

Chapter 6: Economic Law

Economic law should be the easiest subject among the six subjects of the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam. Whether or not you are a student majoring in accounting, you can easily get the hang of it.

When I took the exam back in the day, I studied for only half a month and passed, albeit with a low score. I just want to tell everyone not to worry, as the preparation for this course is relatively easy.

It is recommended to review again about one or two months before the exam because there are many knowledge points that need to be memorized. The closer it gets to the exam date, the more cost-effective it becomes to memorize.

In terms of memorization techniques, it is not about blindly rote memorization. You can use mnemonic methods, analogical memory methods, keyword memory methods, etc., to assist in memory retention. These methods are effective for memorizing content for exam-oriented tests.

The above is my personal review of the preparation experience for the six subjects of the CPA exam, and I hope it is helpful to all my fellow learners.

The release of the 2023 exam results is imminent. I wish you all a smooth passage.

Prediction of the Announcement of the 2023 Certified Public Accountant Exam Results and Measures to Prevent Phishing Websites Scams, the Process of Reviewing Results, and Things to Note.

The announcement of the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam results is expected in late November. Some candidates eagerly anticipate receiving their scores early in order to plan their next steps. However, this mindset can easily be influenced by individuals with ulterior motives, causing anxiety and panic.

Some criminals also take advantage of the candidates' eagerness to check their scores by spreading illegal information about checking scores in advance or paying to change scores. They deceive candidates who are uncertain about their own scores or desperately need to pass certain subjects, causing them to fall into traps and suffer losses. So, when will the results of the 2023 CPA exam be announced? There is currently no specific date, but based on the patterns of previous years' score announcements, we can make a prediction.

As it can be seen, regardless of whether there is a delay in the CPA exam, the scores are usually announced more than two months after the exam. Furthermore, the actual announcement time is generally close to the expected announcement time. Unlike intermediate-level candidates who stay up late waiting for their scores, the CPA exam scores in recent years have been announced during weekdays, mostly in the morning, and sometimes in the afternoon. Therefore, students just need to be patient and wait for the exam scores to be announced as scheduled. The scores are unlikely to be delayed or announced too early, and there are no promises of special channels for score checking or score changes.

Based on this time pattern, we boldly speculate that the scores may be announced during the day on November 20th or 21st. If any students have different opinions, please leave a message for Xiao Ao. Let’s participate together and pay attention.

To check the CPA exam scores, you will need your ID card number and password. Therefore, many “phishing” websites will try all means to obtain your personal information and then carry out theft of important associated information or even fraud. Therefore, do not trust unfamiliar score-checking links and do not enter your ID card number to prevent the leakage of personal information. In addition, do not trust advertisements that promise trustworthy verification and score changes to avoid financial losses. We recommend that students bookmark official channels for safe score checking.

Although the CPA exam is difficult, the threshold to work as a certified public accountant is not as high as students imagine. Many accounting firms do not have mandatory requirements for having a CPA certificate, and there is no limitation on majors either. The well-known “Big Four” firms mainly prioritize the ability to learn. In many firms, there are specific training programs and unwritten rules that allow candidates to study for the CPA exam while working. Therefore, the success or temporary failure in the exam does not need to shake the future career plans of students. It is recommended to confidently submit resumes and gain practical experience, which will help in understanding theoretical knowledge and achieving smooth passage.

Learning has inertia. When the high-intensity study rhythm abruptly stops after the exam, there may be a “withdrawal reaction” where one feels lost, powerless, uneasy, or empty. However, during the period from the end of the exam to the announcement of scores, one can slowly start previewing the content of new subjects. There is no need to rush the pace, allowing oneself to gradually adjust and settle into a good state of mind.

Passing the exam is the ultimate goal of all candidates, but the pass rate for each subject of the CPA professional stage exam is less than 30%. Failure is a “normal” that most candidates must adapt to. Now that the exam results are about to be released, some will be happy while others will be worried. After months of effort, if someone tells you that CPA scores can be changed, how should candidates respond?

Failed the exam? Missed passing by just one point? There is a large gap between estimated scores and actual scores? Want to change the score? The Chinese Institute of Certified Public Accountants (CICPA) officially tells you what to do!

Starting from the fifth working day after the release of the exam results and within the next 10 working days, submit an application for score review through the CICPA National Unified CPA Exam online registration system. The exam scores for the year 2023 have not been released yet, so let’s refer to the score review process from 2022:

  1. Access the CICPA National Unified CPA Exam online registration system and log in with personal information.

  2. On the left navigation bar, select “Application for Score Review.”

  3. Select the subjects to be reviewed, obtain the verification code, and click “Next.”

Applying for score review does not guarantee success. The CICPA has clear regulations regarding score review!

Not all scores can be changed, and the scores that can be changed are clearly stated in official documents by the CICPA!

As shown in the figure above, score review is limited to checking for score errors such as incorrect recording or calculation. Generally, there is no re-evaluation of answer papers. In other words, only incorrect recording and calculation errors can be changed!

Even if a candidate is not able to successfully change the score, they can plan their review focus for the next exam season based on the objective and subjective scores provided in the review results.

So, when will the results of the score review be announced?

Based on the previous years' score review result announcement times, the score review results are generally announced about one month after the end of the score review. Please be patient, all candidates who have applied for score review!

It is recommended that candidates who apply for score review take a two-pronged approach. While waiting for the review results, they can also start early preparation for the content of the 2024 exam season, aiming to pass without the need for score review!

Since there are official methods for score changes, there are also unofficial ways to change scores!

Every year before the score release, emails, text messages, and calls are sent to candidates with information about score changes.

For candidates who face invalid scores in individual subjects or scores close to 60, this information can be quite tempting. Scammers use information or phone calls to deceive candidates, claiming to be internal staff who can change the scores. If candidates let their guard down, they may fall victim to scams.

It is suggested that all candidates should approach their scores with a calm mindset. As long as they put in the corresponding effort, they will definitely pass the CPA exam.

The day before is Monday, November 20th, which seems to still belong to the middle of the month! My dad, who is a certified public accountant, is expected to keep his word!

If it is a date after Tuesday, then it’s time for us to send blessings, considering that it has been almost 3 months since we finished viewing in mid-August. The time is enough, and further delay won’t be justifiable anymore.

Even for the exam with a large number of candidates, like the bar exam, grading only takes a month and a half, which is half the time compared to the certified public accountant exam!

Lastly, everyone should check the official website, as it is currently under maintenance. Hmm, maybe they are importing the scores!
