A later attempt at rekindling their romance fell flat when Liu frantically begged Ke to ignite a symbolic sparkler representing passion for their marriage while she refused to budge. His desperate pleas hinted at an awareness of Ke’s fading love that he is ill-equipped to resurrect.

While the show mines their pain for entertainment, these very real marital issues reflect struggles faced by many couples: unmet emotional needs, broken communication, financial disputes, and diverging expectations. Whether airing dirty laundry on national TV will ultimately help or hurt these particular celebrity marriages remains to be seen.
