BLG Sweep WBG 3-0 to Reach First Ever Worlds Final

BLG dominated WBG in a 3-0 sweep to advance to their first ever League of Legends World Championship final after 11 years. The key difference was in the mid lane, where BLG’s Xiaohu significantly outperformed WBG’s Xiaohu.

In a stunning display of dominance, Bilibili Gaming (BLG) swept Weibo Gaming (WBG) 3-0 in the 2024 League of Legends World Championship semifinals to advance to the organization’s first ever Worlds final. The victory marks a historic achievement for BLG, coming 11 years after the team’s founding in 2013.

The series was characterized by BLG’s complete control over the pace and flow of the games. WBG, who had looked impressive in their quarterfinal win over DWG KIA, seemed lost and outmatched against their LPL rivals.

The biggest difference maker was in the mid lane, where BLG’s star player Xiaohu thoroughly outclassed his WBG counterpart, Shanks. Xiaohu’s champion pool and mechanics proved far superior, as he dominated on picks like Syndra and Akali. In contrast, Shanks struggled to have any impact, often getting caught out of position or failing to execute in teamfights.

BLG’s other lanes also rose to the occasion. Top laner Bin neutralized his highly-touted opponent TheShy, while bot lane duo Elk and Mark went toe-to-toe with Light and Missing and came out ahead. Jungler Yutapon also outperformed WBG’s Karsa, securing crucial objectives and ganks.

With the win, BLG exorcised the demons of past World Championship disappointments. The organization had only reached the Worlds quarterfinals once before, in 2015. This 3-0 victory over WBG emphatically proves that the current BLG roster has what it takes to compete for a title.

For WBG, the loss is a bitter end to what had been a promising tournament run. After a shaky start in the group stage, the team seemed to find their form in the quarterfinals. However, they simply had no answers for BLG’s relentless aggression and superior individual performances. The offseason will likely bring changes as WBG looks to regroup.

BLG can now look forward to the 2024 Worlds Final, where they will face the winner of the other semifinal match between Gen.G and JD Gaming from the LCK and LPL respectively. No matter the opponent, BLG has shown they have the talent and the mental fortitude to compete on the Worlds stage. Xiaohu, in particular, looks more than ready to lead his team to glory and secure his status as an all-time great mid laner.

The 2024 World Championship final will take place on November 2nd at the Seoul World Cup Stadium in Seoul, South Korea. Will BLG cap off their miracle run and bring the Summoner’s Cup back to China for the first time since 2021? Or will their inexperience on this stage compared to veterans Gen.G or JDG prove too much to overcome? Regardless of the result, BLG’s incredible run has already made them one of the great underdog stories in League of Legends history.
